LEONINE and SYRREAL ENTERTAINMENT are co-developing the limited series SANTIAGO, which is a modern interpretation of one of the world’s most legendary revenge tales of all times: “The Count of Monte Cristo” by Alexandre Dumas. The 16-part series will span across two seasons and take us from a Mexican prison, to Germany and other attractive locations around Europe.
Adolfo J. Kolmerer and Arend Remmers, who already collaborated on the critically acclaimed and award winning feature film SCHNEEFLÖCKCHEN are writing the screenplays. Christian Alvart (“Tschiller: Off Duty”, “Banklady”) and Adolfo J. Kolmerer are attached to direct.
Writer/creator Adolfo J. Kolmerer says: “We have been in love with this tale basically all our lives. SANTIAGO has been living in our minds and fingertips ever since we first got the idea of retelling one of our favorite novels, “The Count of Monte Cristo”. We feel the time has come to present this legendary tale in a complete new form and take it to a modern world, with fresh characters in a compelling new setting. Our aim is to leave room for the characters, the heartbreaking drama, the amazing thrill and have this story come to life like we have never seen it before. We want it to be gritty and grounded in reality.”
Writer/creator Arend Remmers adds: “We are super excited about this project and can’t wait to dive deep into the development process. We envision SANTIAGO as something powerful and entertaining. A story that takes its characters seriously and is always one step ahead of the audience.”
Cosima von Spreti, head of co-financing and co-production at Leonine: “We see great international potential and with the original storytelling at its core, we feel it is just the right kind of premium content for us".
